What a day!
On a glorious August Bank Holiday Sunday, Bryn Bettws Lodge was the perfect setting for Roxy and PJ’s stunning outdoor ceremony - surrounded by rolling hills and bathed in sunshine that perfectly mirrored the warmth and joy of the couple themselves.
I was thrilled to be part of this one, and to be singing! Edward Sharpe’s “Home” welcomed the bridal party, followed by Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” for the signing of the keepsake certificate. And yes - there may have been a little impromptu guest sing-along too! 🎶
With a registry office marriage the day before, they chose a celebrant led ceremony, with yours truly, the following day, to celebrate their union the way they really wanted to, including Ari(stotle) the Peckignese, as ring bearer!
This ceremony was a wonderful example of how much the couple’s input shapes the magic of the day. Roxy and PJ shared so much with me - their stories, quirks, and what truly mattered to them - through their couple’s questionnaire. They wanted their ceremony to be heartfelt yet hilarious, and they gave me plenty to work with!
The friends’ and family questionnaires were gold, too. Some of the tales they shared had me crying laughing. Their friends did not hold back - direct, unfiltered, and absolutely hilarious. I won’t pretend it was easy to weave those stories into a ceremony fit for a wedding; there were definitely a few head-scratching moments and many rewrites before I landed on the right tone. During the ceremony, I could see exactly who knew the unedited versions - those louder laughs gave them away! (IYKYK 😉)
Roxy looked absolutely sensational - radiant and effortlessly herself, channelling old-school Hollywood glam. And the finishing touch? Dr. Martens boots as bridal footwear. Iconic! 🤩
The day was brimming with personality: a kissing booth, “shots for tying the knot,” his-and-hers ketchup and mayo, a Bride and Groom newspaper, and even a bespoke colouring book for the kids. Every detail screamed them. 😍
The speeches were top-tier - heartfelt, hilarious, and beautifully delivered by the Groom, Mother of the Bride, and Best Man. (I’ll admit it: speeches are my favourite part of a wedding, aside from the ceremony itself!) 🙌
Evening entertainment came courtesy of the Bride’s brother’s band, Young Americans, making the celebration even more personal. The musical highlights were unforgettable: the Bride herself taking the mic for a few numbers, a song from the Father of the Bride, another from the Bride’s Gran, and a duet between the Bride and her mum. Music truly runs in this family’s veins! 🎤
What a joy it was to be part of a day so full of love, laughter, and music. Roxy and PJ’s wedding was a perfect reflection of who they are - fun, heartfelt, and unapologetically themselves. Here’s to a lifetime of harmony, humour, and happily ever afters.
